FLEUR BLOCK PRINT
There is something magical about a fabric that has been printed by hand using the traditional wood block printing technique of our incredibly talented artisans in India. The way the ink settles organically into the fabric imprinted with the movement and rhythm of the maker can not be replicated by a machine printing process. It was not until we ourselves tried our hand at printing a length of fabric guided by our patient teachers that we truly understood the level of skill required to create these soulful textiles. Inspired by our experience and slightly in awe of their expertise we worked closely with our makers in India to create the Fleur Print for our new Indian Summer Spring range.
Spring represents the emergence of new life & new beginnings so we created the sweetest little flower motif for our artisans to hand carve into the woodblocks for printing. If you have ever tried your hand at wood carving you will understand how incredible it is that our artisans are able to achieve such a fine level of detail in their carving skills to translate our little flower drawings into a delicately carved wood block. Holding true to the essence of the Spring season we chose the softest sage green colour to print our fabric, representing new growth and fresh ideas.
It truly is an honour to be able to work with our artisans in India to help preserve these traditional printing methods. When you buy a piece from our Cove collection you are supporting both the preservation of handmade printing practices and contributing to the livelihood of the makers who continue to practice this beautiful craft.
We hope that you love it as much as we do.
